NAIDOC Week
First week of July, Sunday to Sunday
National NAIDOC Week celebrates and recognises the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is an opportunity for First Nations people and Communities to celebrate culture and for all Australians to learn from and participate in First Nations-led events.
NAIDOC themes and resources change each year. Schools and organisations should use current material from the National NAIDOC Committee and prioritise local First Nations leadership, participation and paid expertise.
Ways to mark the week
- Attend and support local First Nations-led NAIDOC events.
- Use the current national theme as a starting point for learning that continues throughout the year.
- Engage local First Nations people and organisations through respectful, properly recognised arrangements rather than expecting unpaid cultural labour.
