Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum
Marks the 1967 vote that changed two constitutional provisions relating to Aboriginal people. It enabled Commonwealth law-making and removed the exclusion from population counts, but did not grant voting rights or end discrimination.
National Reconciliation Week
From 27 May to 3 June, Australians learn about shared histories, cultures and achievements and consider how to take action towards reconciliation.
Mabo Day
Honours Eddie Koiki Mabo and the 1992 High Court decision recognising native title and rejecting terra nullius.
Coming of the Light
A significant Torres Strait Islander observance marked through religious and cultural ceremonies across the Torres Strait and mainland Australia.
NAIDOC Week
A national week celebrating and recognising the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day
Celebrates the strength, culture and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and the role of family, Community and Country in their lives.
Anniversary of the Wave Hill Walk-Off
Marks the 1966 walk-off by Gurindji workers and families at Wave Hill, led by Vincent Lingiari, in the struggle for fair pay, better conditions and the return of their land.
Indigenous Literacy Day
A national celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, cultures and languages, led by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
Anniversary of the Uluru Handback
Marks the 1985 handback of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park to Anangu Traditional Owners.
Anniversary of St John Paul II’s Address
Marks the 1986 address to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at Blatherskite Park, Alice Springs.
Anniversary of the Redfern Speech
Marks Paul Keating’s 1992 Redfern address at the launch of the International Year of the World’s Indigenous People.
Harmony Day
A day within Harmony Week celebrating cultural diversity, inclusion, respect and belonging, alongside action to eliminate racism.

A national Catholic observance celebrating the spirituality, cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholics.
Anniversary of the 2023 Voice Referendum
A trauma-aware date for reflection on the 2023 referendum and continuing First Nations calls for justice, truth-telling and self-determination.
Anzac Day: First Nations Service and Sacrifice
Honours Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander diggers, servicewomen, veterans and ex-servicepeople, including those who died in wars, conflicts and peace operations.
Remembrance Day: Service, Sacrifice and Resistance
Remembers First Nations military service and those who defended Country and were killed during the frontier wars and other resistance.
