National Reconciliation Week

27 May to 3 June

National Reconciliation Week is held on the same dates each year. The week begins on the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum and ends on Mabo Day, the anniversary of the 1992 High Court decision recognising native title.

It is a time to learn about shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to consider how people and organisations can contribute to respectful relationships, justice and equity. Reconciliation work should continue throughout the year and should not replace First Nations rights, truth-telling or self-determination.

Ways to mark the week

  • Use the current theme and resources published by Reconciliation Australia.
  • Plan learning and action that continues beyond a single event or week.
  • Work with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations through respectful, properly recognised arrangements.
