National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day

4 August

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day is a national celebration held each year on 4 August. Led by SNAICC – National Voice for our Children, the day has celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children since 1988.

The day recognises the strength, pride and potential of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and the importance of growing up strong in culture and connected to family, Community and Country. Activities should listen to and value children’s voices and be guided by local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and organisations.

Ways to mark the date

  • Use the current Children’s Day theme and official resources provided by SNAICC.
  • Create opportunities for children to see their cultures, languages and identities respected and represented.
  • Partner with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, educators and artists, following cultural and image permissions.
