Connection is at the heart of who we are as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People - Connections to Country, Culture, and each other. Our People are connected to the oldest trading pathways and connections on earth. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples used trade routes that connected different clans throughout all of mainland Australia and Sea Country of the Torres Strait.  These trading pathways travelled unimaginable distances and allowed us to share knowledge and culture from islands to mountain ranges - across rivers, and deserts. We connected and traded with the Macassan fishermen from Indonesia. Their visits are remembered through songs, oral history, dances, and rock art.  

Combined, these connections were, and are, the most extensive systems of human communication in the history of mankind.
