Handcrafted by Pakana cultural practitioner Cade Burgess, this Tasmanian dogwood (Pomaderris apetala) throwing stick is shaped and finished by hand, preserving the natural grain, character and gentle variations of the timber.

Throwing sticks are part of longstanding Aboriginal cultural practice. Their forms, uses and meanings vary between Countries, Communities and makers. This piece reflects Cade’s own cultural knowledge and making practice.

Details

  • Handcrafted from Tasmanian dogwood (Pomaderris apetala)
  • Approximately 500 mm long
  • Lightly finished with linseed oil
  • Sold individually
  • Each piece is naturally unique in shape, grain, colour and finish

The photograph showing three pieces is included to illustrate the natural variation between individually handcrafted throwing sticks. The piece supplied will have its own distinctive character.

As the natural dogwood continues to season, subtle movement and occasional fine checking may appear, particularly at the ends. This is a natural characteristic of solid timber and part of the individual character of each handmade piece.
