Made by Braydon Williams from Tasmanian stringybark, these clapsticks bring together the timber’s natural grain, knots and warm colour.

Sold as one pair: 2 clapsticks.

The main photograph shows a representative pair. The additional group photograph illustrates natural variation across the range. Each pair has its own shape, grain, knots and colour, so the pair supplied may differ from the one pictured.

Traditional use and cultural context

Clapsticks are wooden percussion instruments struck together to provide rhythm for singing and dance. They feature in many Aboriginal musical traditions, including social and ceremonial settings, with practices and cultural protocols varying between communities. Clapstick-making is also part of Tasmania’s living Aboriginal woodcraft traditions, continued today by makers such as Braydon.

If it will be used in Aboriginal cultural learning, seek guidance and consent from local Aboriginal Knowledge Holders or a local Aboriginal community-controlled organisation.
